Neighbourhood of Ghosts, Beer and Pizza Night, 6 March 2020
The Men, The Map and the Music they inspired
A special presentation by Dave O'Malley, cellist Julian Armour and composer Gilles Leclerc.
During the Second World War, more than 500 men were killed who came from one small neighbourhood in downtown Ottawa. Dave O'Malley of Vintage Wings of Canada will tell the story of these men and will share a dozen or so compelling and visual stories out of the hundreds that can be told. All of these men were tracked down by O'Malley and their addresses mapped to show the powerful image of death's footprints in this terrible time for Canada.
This will be followed by a live performance of a musical piece inspired by the map called “Glebe North—Leaving Home” by Ottawa composer Gilles Leclerc as well as music composed during the Second World War.
Julian Armour, founder of Ottawa ChamberFest and Executive Director of "Music and Beyond", will play cello accompanied by his son on piano.
The evening will start at 6:00 p.m. and will include pizza (delivered around 7:30 p.m.) and drinks for a nominal cost.
Admission fee: $10 for Non-Members - Free for VWC Members.
Space is limited. Registration required.
